Kentucky Regional Men's Chorus Retreat 2015

January 30 - February 1

First Christian Church

1930 Winchester Ave, Ashland, KY

(Updated February 5, 2015)

The 2015 version of "Singing From The Back Row" was held in Ashland, Kentucky and hosted by First Christian Church. This was our 22nd annual retreat and they just keep getting better with each passing year! We were welcomed by our host congregation senior minister, Ike Nicholson as our rehearsal time began on Friday night. Our record setting 10 new members soon learned that we donít spend a lot of time working on music that we should be very familiar, especially since we had two new numbers to learn. When we took our first break, it was obvious that much time and effort had been given to ensure we would feel welcome and comfortable. There were lots of snacks and drinks available in plentiful supply for everyone.

Saturday morning began with our traditional and inspiring devotional led by Blake Robinson, FCC-Pikeville. Our retreat worship was led by Ike Nicholson, FCC-Ashland. And, we were introduced to Steve Siler, talented music composer whose wife serves as Associate Minister at FCC-Frankfort. One of our two new musical selections was written by Steve. He would lead us in a special worship concert at the conclusion of our afternoon session. Steveís Christian ministry uses the power of songs and stories as a bridge to hope and healing for those facing lifeís most difficult issues. Information regarding his ministry can be found at www.musicforthesoul.org. We were free to enjoy dinner and the UK game Saturday evening in the Ashland area.

Our director, John Opsata reminded us that the reason we come to a retreat is much more than rehearsing for a performance. Through Johnís leadership we learn and share in the message and meaning of the lyrics and the music. By the time we finished our last session on Saturday, we had enjoyed and benefited from friendships, new and old along with inspiring Christian fellowship among men. We have all been blessed because we choose to come together as a group of men in praise of our Lord. What we all receive from this experience is far greater than what we give when we share our talents that are blessed by God.
